Ian Cogswell has over 25 years’ experience in the banking industry and has spent over 20 years working in Project Finance, specialising in the oil & gas sector since 2002. His experience covers both Lending and Financial Advisory, most notably to the upstream, midstream and downstream oil & gas sectors. Clients have included the major Integrated Oil Companies; National Oil Companies; independent developers; and contractors.

Ian started his Project Finance career at Lloyds Bank, where he was primarily involved with analysing the bankability of infrastructure Projects being developed under the UK government’s Private Finance Initiative (“PFI”). Since moving to the Japanese bank, Mizuho (formerly the Industrial Bank of Japan) he has principally focused on the oil & gas sector, moving to Natixis in 2006 as the Global Head of Natural Resources Project Finance. He has led a number of high-profile mandates for blue-chip clients globally.

Since 2008, he has been a visiting lecturer in Project Finance for both the Master of Engineering – Economics & Management; and the Masters in Project Finance at the École des Ponts ParisTech and the University of Paris at Nanterre. He is regularly sought as an expert speaker at conferences covering Project Finance and the oil & gas sector and has delivered both in-house and public training courses as well as expert workshops covering all aspects of Project Finance and the Oil & Gas value chain.
