Medicen Paris Region is thrilled to host the 2020 edition of BIO-Europe Spring following the great success of the 2015 conference here. For this new encounter in Paris, we plan to design the central booth as a showcase for innovative talents of biotechnologies coming from the Paris region and other dynamic French territories.

The Paris Region is a worldwide hub when it comes to healthcare innovation, and the very first European region when it comes to biopharma specifically. It is indeed home to 1,000+ life sciences startups, more than 1,200 public and private R&D labs and 12,000 life sciences researchers, and Europe’s largest hospital network.

In terms of biologics, the Paris Region is recognized worldwide as a leader in cell and gene therapy with many world first clinical trials and a strong ecosystem of leading research centers such as Imagine Institute, AP-HP, Curie Institute, Genethon, Pasteur Institute and private companies such as Cellectis, Gensight Biologics and Lysogene.

In the past few years, bioproduction has emerged as a hot topic and industrial challenge in the field. The advent of key enabling technologies such as photonics, microfluidics and the coming era of data and AI are definitively changing the rules and bringing new technological solutions to industrial bottlenecks.  Public government and major pharmaceutical companies including SANOFI have decided to address this sector as a top national priority with dedicated investment (500+ Mn€) in the next few years along with antimicrobial resistance, AI and healthcare.

Moreover, the Paris Region can benefit from Europe’s largest and most diversified innovation-oriented talent pool in the fields of engineering, mathematics, AI and data sciences thanks to leading institutions (X and the Saclay Cluster) and major companies’ AI research center (Google, Microsoft, Facebook). As a supporter of this ecosystem, the Paris Region Council has unveiled last year a strategic plan in the field of AI towards 2021 with concrete measures to drive talents, industrial mutualization and economic growth of innovative startups and SMEs.

With the fast-changing landscape of the biopharma industry, we deeply believe that more than ever the Paris Region has the right ecosystem, funding schemes and talents to take a leading position.

Medicen Paris Region plays a strategic role in this topic as a representative of French healthcare competitiveness clusters. By federating over 475 companies, hospitals, research centers and local authorities, Medicen aims to develop new combined therapeutic solutions by turning scientific and technological assets into products and services for patients. Since 2005, our core mission has been to connect our members with each other and decompartmentalize branches of sciences, public and private spheres involved in the healthcare innovation, in order to foster innovative projects. For this new edition, we plan to highlight the cutting-edge research in biotechnology 3.0, to enhance the high potential that France and the Paris Region have to offer.

“Welcoming BIO-Europe Spring 2020 to Paris is a unique opportunity to showcase the tremendous dynamics taking place in the Paris Region, not only in terms of biopharma innovative pipeline but also in terms of skills, business facilitation, innovation funding and strategic collaborations with academic and clinical sites of worldwide excellence. We will do our utmost to connect international delegates with our vibrant ecosystem, through the Paris Region exhibition space, keynotes, program speakers and local onsite business tours alongside the event.” - Stéphane Roques, CEO, Medicen Paris Region

We look very much forward to welcoming you to Paris in March!
