Neil Buchan
SWIFT Standards, Head of Standard Implementation at SWIFT
Speaker

Profile

Since joining SWIFT in the Standards department just over 6 years ago, Neil initially devoted his efforts in contributing towards the SWIFT global payments innovation (gpi) initiative, as a member of the SWIFT core project team and continues to work with ISO 20022 as an International messaging Standard.

Neil currently leads Standards Implementation in SWIFT Standards. With SWIFT committing to migrate their proprietary FIN MT payment messaging Standard to ISO 20022 over the coming years, one of the core deliverables of the Standards Implementation team is ISO 20022 implementation guidelines on the SWIFT network.

In addition to his role within the SWIFT Standards team, Neil is also the Secretariat for the global Payment Market Practice Group (PMPG), having also represented the UK on this market practice group in his previous role within a global Financial Institution.

As the vice-convenor of the ISO 20022 Payment Standards Evaluation Group (PaySEG), Neil is passionate about promoting global payments interoperability, and champions ISO 20022 as the International message Standard that can enable this.

With over 20 years of experience within the global payments industry his expertise focuses around International Payments, global Payment Market Infrastructures, and Reference Data. However his broader experience covers the end-to-end payment process, from payment initiation through to reporting messages, but also includes other tangents such as a Anti Money Laundering filtering and Regulatory Report, to mention a few.
