Aleza Remis joined the Department of Justice Fraud Section as a Trial Attorney in 2015 through the Attorney General’s Honors Program, and has served as an Assistant Chief in the Fraud Section’s Health Care Fraud Unit since January 2019. During her tenure, Ms. Remis has focused on white collar crime impacting the health care industry, including the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Ms. Remis has charged and obtained convictions against dozens of defendants, and has tried several cases to verdict in multiple federal jurisdictions. In 2019, she received the Assistant Attorney General’s Award for Contribution by a New Employee. Before joining the Department, Ms. Remis clerked for the Honorable Gregg Costa on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Ms. Remis received her B.A. from Vanderbilt University where she was a Chancellor’s Scholar, and her J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law where she was the Administrative Editor of the Texas Law Review and a member of the Chancellors Honor Society. Ms. Remis also served as an Adjunct Professor at The University of Texas School of Law, where she co-taught a seminar on federal prosecution and defense and a course on federal criminal law.
