Mwana is passionate about building ethical cultures and strengthening organizational resilience through robust enterprise risk management, integrated corporate governance and forward-looking compliance frameworks, with a particular focus on the life sciences sector.
She joined Takeda Pharmaceuticals International in 2012 to establish the Compliance function for the Emerging Markets Business Unit, where she led the development of a comprehensive Compliance program. In 2015, she was appointed to lead the newly created Global Ethics & Compliance organization. She served on the Takeda Executive Team from January 2019 until March 2026.
A long-standing contributor to the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA), Mwana served as Chair of IFPMA’s Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer Roundtable and Ethics & Business Integrity Committee from 2023 - 2025.
Earlier in her career, Mwana worked for Baxter Healthcare in Zurich as Senior Counsel responsible for Central and Eastern Europe and Emerging Markets and as Legal Director, Mergers & Acquisitions for N. V. Interbrew S.A. in Belgium. Before moving in-house, she spent 6 years in private practice with law firms in the U.S., Central Asia and the U.K.
She graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Tech in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in International Studies, with Minors in Economics, French and Russian. She earned her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Mwana currently lives with her family in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
