Profile
Ashok is a Distinguished Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, the Chief Scientist for biomedical research at the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR), and Executive Director, National Initiative for RNA Biology & Its Applications (NIRBA). He was previously the Ursula Zoellner Professor of Cancer Research at the University of Cambridge from 1998-2020, and the Director of the Medical Research Council Cancer Unit there from 2006-20. His research has led to serial spin-out companies, and he serves on the advisory boards of biotech and pharma including Chugai Pharmaceutical (Roche Group). He is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Science, one of the UK’s four national academies, a member of EMBO, and a Fellow of the Academy of the American Association for Cancer Research.
