Dr AHM Mehbub Anwar is a Research Lead in Transportation and Infrastructure team at King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC), an advisory think tank within global energy economics and sustainability providing services to entities and authorities in the Saudi energy sector. Very recently, KAPSARC has won OPEC Award for the Best Energy Research Center for 2023 in recognition of its impactful research that shapes public discourse on critical energy-related issues.
Dr Mehbub has over 16 years research experience in the transport domain including maritime. He currently leads the KAPSARC Energy Decision Model for Maritime project, in collaboration with the Kingdom’s energy ecosystem at KAPSARC. This project investigates future port activity, throughput handling and energy forecasting. He also works on the KAPSARC Spatial Urban Energy System (KSUES) project including transit-oriented development (TOD) in Riyadh city. Prior to joining KAPSARC, he worked in Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW), a state government organization, as a Transport Planner, and at the University of Wollongong (UOW) in Australia as an Associate Research Fellow in transportation. He led the update on the state of transport in the TfNSW regions as part of the strategic planning for its Future Transport 2056 at state level. He holds a Ph.D. with an examiners’ commendation for an outstanding thesis from the UOW. His thesis focused on modeling travelers’ preference heterogeneity. He has published over 20 papers in national and international journals and conference proceedings. He has also taught students at different universities around the world.
