Dr. Talal Al Adwani is an international legal expert specializing in maritime, insurance, oil & gas, commercial, and environmental law, with qualifications in both civil and common law. He holds a PhD from Plymouth University (co-supervised by Cambridge University) and has extensive experience as a legal practitioner, arbitrator, academic, and consultant.
He has served as IMO Maritime Ambassador for the GCC region, legal consultant and auditor under the UN’s International Maritime Organization (IMO), and head of expert teams reforming maritime and commercial legislation in Egypt and Sudan. Dr. Al Adwani is also a listed arbitrator with the London Maritime Arbitration Association (LMAA), and a member of Lloyd’s Insurance Market, where he has trained brokers and underwriters.
Currently, he is a lecturer at Kuwait International Law College, teaching petroleum, maritime, and commercial law. His career spans roles in leading international law firms in the UK and Kuwait, authoring numerous books and articles published by LexisNexis, Oxford University Press, Arab Law Quarterly, and others, and serving as editor and reviewer for major maritime journals.
In addition to academia and consultancy, Dr. Al Adwani has practical maritime experience as a Master Mariner, having sailed on VLCCs and gas carriers, and has contributed to drafting key national frameworks such as Kuwait’s National Search and Rescue Plan.
