Evangelos Marinakis is an international businessman, investor, and philanthropist. He first made his name in the shipping industry but has since invested in sports, media and entertainment, consumer services, energy, and real estate.
Evangelos Marinakis is the founder and chairman of Capital Maritime & Trading Corp. The Capital Group currently controls a fleet of 151 vessels, with an overall tonnage of 12.5 million tonnes (dwt) approx., across the tanker, container, LNG, LPG/Ammonia, LCO2, offshore, and dry bulk segments. The fleet under management includes the vessels of Nasdaq-listed Capital Clean Energy Carriers Corp. (‘CCEC’). Mr. Marinakis has a successful track record of more than 30 years in shipping and capital markets, having completed two IPOs and two major M&A transactions in the US markets and having grown the Capital companies throughout the shipping cycles.
Mr. Marinakis is the founder and majority shareholder of Alter Ego Media, the Athex Stock Exchange media tech group. Alter Ego Media is the major media group in Greece with over 20 media assets and the largest content producer in Greece. The Group’s portfolio includes Mega Channel, Greece’s most viewed TV station, the radio station MY RADIO, the iconic news media TO VIMA, TA NEA, and ‘Oikonomikos Tachydromos’, the in.gr portal, as well as a number of digital sites.
As the owner of the Greek champion Olympiacos FC, the Premier League Nottingham Forest FC, and Rio Ave FC, Mr Marinakis has left an indelible mark in European football history. During his tenure, Olympiacos won 11 Greek league titles, 5 Greek cups, the 2023-’24 UEFA Europa Conference League, and the UEFA Youth League, becoming the first club in UEFA history to win two European titles in one season. As owner of Nottingham Forest F.C., successfully led the club back to the Premier League in 2022 after 23 years and oversaw its subsequent qualification for European competition through UEFA Europa League.
Mr. Marinakis actively supports several charitable and cultural causes both in Greece and around the world, such as the "Miltiadis Marinakis Endowed Professorship for Modern Greek Language and Culture" at Ohio State University, the Kazantzakis Museum in Crete, UNICEF, and several other charitable causes both in Greece and around the world.
