James Reynolds is an Associate Director at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he advises public and private sector leaders on strategy, transformation, and policy across the maritime, ports, and logistics sectors. A core member of BCG’s global Transportation and Logistics practice, he brings nearly 20 years of international experience spanning both consulting and executive industry roles.
Prior to BCG, James served as Vice President at Abu Dhabi Ports Group, where he led commercial strategy development, international expansion, and the launch of new regional shipping services. He built the group’s strategic M&A function - defining processes, running investment pipelines, and coordinating due diligence in collaboration with external advisors. As part of his broader commercial remit, he also oversaw early-stage work assessing hydrogen opportunities in the port environment.
James began his career as a marine engineer and engine performance specialist at a global marine OEM, focusing on vessel efficiency and compliance with evolving environmental regulations. He later led business development and lifecycle solutions, supporting offshore and shipping clients worldwide.
He holds an MEng in Marine Engineering from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and an Executive MBA from London Business School, with further executive education in shipping finance and risk.
