Profile

A naval architect, Torgeir Sterri graduated from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and has a strong technical background in areas such as plan approval, ship newbuilding, ships in operation and certification of materials and components. With more than 25 years of experience in the global maritime industry, Torgeir Sterri has held a variety of managerial positions in DNV. Since March 2023, Torgeir Sterri is holding the position of the Director Offshore Classification. In his current role he is based in Høvik and is responsible for DNV’s maritime offshore business across the globe. From 2018 to February 2023, he was appointed as DNV Maritime Regional Manager for Region West Europe which is comprised of Area Germany, Switzerland and Austria, Area Benelux and France, Area UK & Ireland, Area Iberia, Italy and Malta, as well as the Hamburg Advisory unit. Based in Hamburg he was responsible for all DNV maritime operations across the Region. From 2013 to 2017, Torgeir Sterri held the position of DNV Maritime Regional Manager and Chairman for Greater China, one of the most strategically important regions for the DNV. Based in Shanghai, he was responsible for overseeing, strengthening, and growing DNV’s maritime business across the Region. Before working in China, Mr Sterri was DNV’s Country Chair for Benelux and Regional Manager for Central Europe. Based in Rotterdam, being responsible for all DNV’s operations in the countries in Central Europe, including Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, etc. He also has experience of sailing as a captain on ferries in Oslo.
