Eknes is the global segment director for special ships in DNV, which among others includes ship types such as offshore service & subsea vessels. The role includes global responsibility for DNV's strategic directions within the market segment, keeping a close eye on technology trends and developments. Eknes is working to improve technology innovation and the systemic need for adaption to cope with decarbonization, alternative fuels, digital technologies, and new ways of assuring safe performance. His knowledge of communicology (study of common factors in communication and change processes) is highly relevant. With a focus on sustainability and innovation in the maritime industry, Eknes is a very active motivator and frequently used advisor in how the industry can improve its competitiveness.

His background after graduating with MSc in Marine structures includes 30 years of experience in different technical and management positions. This includes heading the section for offshore support, special vessel, and conversions and being a country manager of DNV Maritime in Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. He is also a board member of the Shipping & Offshore Network, and an active sparring partner to several companies working with innovation in the maritime or energy segment (including renewables as offshore wind).
