Ben Bailey is the Director of Programme for The Mission to Seafarers – the Anglican charity for mariners and their families.
After training to be a journalist, Ben worked in press and public affairs at The Salvation Army and in the maritime welfare sector before moving into community programming. He now heads the Mission’s Programme department, working with MtS Regions, the shipping industry, governments, and civil society to create effective crew welfare and wellbeing services globally.
Ben’s department is also responsible for the Mission’s WeCare brand of mental health and wellbeing programmes, Seafarers’ Family Networks in the Philippines and India, as well as the internationally renowned Seafarers’ Happiness Index. Since 2017, Ben has served on the ICMA Delegation to the IMO where he represents the views of the Christian maritime welfare sector in international fora. He is a regular panellist and presenter at maritime conferences including CMA Shipping, London International Shipping Week and Crew Connect Manila.
