Profile

Dr Bhupendra Kumar Singh is currently Chief, Energy Security at Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), New Delhi after serving for a short stint at the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. A first person to do PhD on India’s Energy Security from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, he has also done Executive MBA from UPES, Dehradun. He has written books, articles in reputed peer reviewed Journals and News Papers. He had the opportunity to address the Energy Parliamentary Committee on Energy Storage, United Kingdom. He had been member of ‘ETP Committee’, constituted by International Energy Agency (IEA), Paris(2010-11), Member of International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE), USA(2009-2010), Member of the committee on Analysis of Future Mobility Fuel Scenarios Considering the Sustainable Use of Biofuels and Other Alternative Vehicle Fuels in East Asia Summit Countries, AIST, Japan( 2020-23,) Project Director for the Projects of FCO, Government of UK, (2015-16), Asia Foundation (2015-18) and Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (2018 till date). Helped in the formulation of the Policy on “Emerging National Security Issues 2021” for The Centre of Excellence for National Security, RSIS and the National Security Coordination Secretariat (NSCS) in the Prime Minister’s Office of Singapore.

He is also a Reviewer of Strategic Analysis, Taylor and Francis and Environment Science and Policy, Elsevier. He was instrumental for facilitating India-Nepal Power Trade Agreement in 2014. For his exemplary work on cross border power trade in South Asia, he was awarded with Nepal's Prestigious Award IPPAN Distinguished Person Award in 2021.
