Ajay Wasserman
CEO & Chief Investment Officer at Fio Capital
Speaker

Profile

Ajay Wasserman is CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Fio Capital, a South African family office and investment holding group, a Founding Partner at Kingsbridge Wealth, and the author and host of Conscious Capital.

He began working at 15 as an electrician, building an electrical business that grew to employ close to 100 people. He later entered wealth management, where his 16 years of experience included managing several billion in pension and provident fund assets on behalf of employer groups. Over the past decade, he also built a business consulting group that has supported more than 6,000 entrepreneurs through a team of 60 internal specialist consultants.

Ajay established his family office during South Africa’s Level 5 lockdown in 2020, inspired by a book on investing like Warren Buffett, signed and given to him by Alec Hogg. Buffett’s approach to patient capital and long-term ownership helped shape his ambition to build the Berkshire Hathaway of Africa. He approaches that ambition with a long horizon and a sense of humour: “If God spares me, I have another 74 years to work on it.” He hopes to remain active into the year 2100, when he would turn 108, and sees stewardship as a lifelong responsibility rather than something that ends at retirement.

Fio Capital invests in technology, healthcare, education, agriculture, energy and real estate. The group’s faith-driven impact investment philosophy combines responsible stewardship and commercial discipline with a commitment to addressing practical needs across Africa. Ajay promotes African investment internationally and is a member of the Faith Driven Investor community.

Married for nine years and a father of four children under six, he brings both an entrepreneur’s perspective and a personal commitment to building lasting value across generations.
