Johannes Gunnell joined Maris Capital and Maris Africa Fund I as a Partner in 2010. Maris Africa Fund went on to achieve a 24% net IRR and 2.0x net MOIC for those investors exiting in 2014. Following Maris Africa Fund’s conversion into an investment holding company in 2014, he became interim CFO and then Commercial Director of Maris Limited, responsible for new investments, corporate actions and follow-on expansions across Maris’ 20 investee companies. He now sits as the Chief Financial Officer of Maris Limited which is being exited and will be a managing partner of Maris' PE new fund, Maris Africa Fund II.

He has also sat on the board and headed up the audit committee of several listed companies in Africa and Asia and sat on the board of various portfolio companies, including Equator Energy, which was the largest Commercial & Industrial Solar provider in East Africa, and Mopani Gold.

Previously, he spent seven years at UBS Investment Bank working as a Director in global equities in London and Amsterdam, serving european and international clients. He had a particular focus on socially responsible investments and was involved in the listing of various renewables companies, including the largest European IPO in 2008, EDP Renovaveis. Johannes graduated in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Magdalen College, Oxford.
