Rudigor Kleyn is CEO and co-founder of Capitan, a South African private credit fund established in 2023 to provide institutional capital to SME property developers, with a focus on high-impact sectors including affordable housing, student accommodation, retirement living and community infrastructure.

Prior to founding Capitan, Rudigor spent 24 years with the FirstRand Group across RMB, FirstRand and Ashburton Investments. His career spans private equity, private credit and structured finance, US high-yield debt and alternative investments.

In 2009, Rudigor co-founded the team that incubated Ashburton Investments ahead of its launch in 2013. As a founding member and later Head of Alternatives, he established and launched Ashburton’s Private Debt, Impact, Private Equity and Hedge Fund capabilities, building the respective investment teams and serving on both its Credit and Investment Committees. He subsequently led the firm’s largest institutional AUM-gathering channels.
