Taolo is a purpose and impact driven individual that has significant experience in financial services. She is currently the Founder and Partner of Alpha Reign an impact investment firm that focuses on private debt solutions for small and medium enterprises in Southern Africa. Ms. Modisi also serves as a Non-Executive Director to financial institutions, one of which includes Botswana Insurance Fund Managers (Bifm), a subsidiary of the SanlamAllianz Group (the largest non-banking financial group in Africa). Bifm is the oldest and largest asset management in Botswana with an excess of over USD 2,5 billion under management. Prior to this Taolo Headed up Debt Capital Markets for Southern and Central Africa at Standard Bank Group in Johannesburg, which included several different countries across sub-Saharan African. Ms. Modisi also worked for Investec Bank in Johannesburg, as a Senior Consultant in the Specialised Finance team focusing on lending opportunities across the African continent.
Taolo has served as an Advisor to the United Nations Economic Commission of Africa (UNECA), advising on Pension Fund Reforms in Africa. She has significant experience in Debt Capital Markets, Private Debt, Investment Banking, Lending, and Treasury. Ms. Modisi has placed over USD 12 billion of issues and advised various Sovereigns, Central Banks, Multinationals, State-Owned Entities, Banks and Corporates. Taolo is also the Founding Trustee for the Gaositwe Chiepe Trust; a Trust formed in the name of her grandmother, who was the first female Cabinet Minister in Botswana. The trust supports children with learning disabilities.
Ms. Modisi has led Senior and Mezzanine Debt opportunities encompassing Corporate Lending, Leveraged Buyouts, Expansion Finance and Real Estate Finance. Her transactions have received awards from the likes of EMEA Finance Magazine, The Credit Magazine and The Banker.
Ms. Modisi has led teams of professionals in her banking career and continues to do so in her roles as a Non-Executive Director, Committee Member, Trustee and including in her Advisory and Consultancy Roles. Taolo has originated several firsts in various countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including the first commodity-linked note in sub-Saharan Africa, the first issues for governments, corporates, commercial paper, including credit-linked programmes in a number of jurisdictions across the continent. Taolo’s successes in originating and placing issues in sub-Saharan Africa reign from her passion in creating impact through developing investment solutions in Private Capital and Capital Markets.
Taolo has lived in 6 different countries in three different continents. She also completed a 13 month-long Leadership Program with the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, under Stanford Seed that enrolls the most promising Business Leaders in established businesses in Africa and South Asia.
In Taolo’s free time Taolo Mentors other businesses. She is currently a Mentor under the Standford Seed Aspire program for Small businesses with revenues between $30,000 to $300,000. Ms. Modisi is also a marathon runner.
