Varun is a Director and head of investments at idi Emerging Markets, an emerging markets focused private equity fund and is based out of Paris. He leads investments in funds (primary & secondary transactions) and companies (co-investments) across Africa, India, China, Latin America, South East Asia, and the Middle East. Varun is also involved in active monitoring of commitments as an LPAC advisory member in funds in various geographies.

Previously, he was an advisor with Newfund, a French Venture Capital firm backing seed-stage start-ups across Europe. He also advised Klecha & Co. of European M&A transactions and research. Prior to that, he co-founded and served as an Executive Director at August Robotics, a Hong Kong / Shenzhen based robotics company that builds autonomous robots. Before that, he worked with India Alternatives, an India-focused Private Equity Fund, and Avendus Capital, an Investment Bank where he specialized in transactions across Technology, Media, and Telecom.

Varun is a Rhodes Scholar from Oxford University, where he received a Masters in Financial Economics from the Said Business School and a Masters in Computer Science. He is also an international swimmer and has participated in the Olympic trials, World Championships, Afro Asian and Asian Games.
