Thijs van Woerden is since March 2024 Director General Horizontal Line Supervision at the European Central Bank (ECB), responsible for policy, methodology and risk analysis in banking supervision. As of March 2026, Mr van Woerden will be Director General Universal & Diversified Institutions, responsible for the prudential supervision of around 40 Significant Institutions (SI’s) in 14 countries of the EU.
Previously he was Division Director European Banks Supervision at De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), responsible for all DNB staff working in Joint Supervisory Teams supervising Dutch SI’s.
From 2012 until 2018, Mr van Woerden was Division Director Insurance Supervision. Before that he held managerial roles in DNB’s Supervision Policy Division.
Prior to joining DNB in 2005 he worked as a consultant financial services at Accenture (1997-2005). Mr van Woerden holds a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Amsterdam.
