Mr. MacKinnon joined Sound Point in 2016 and is currently Head of Commercial Real Estate Credit and a Portfolio Manager on the Commercial Real Estate platform. Additionally, Mr. MacKinnon serves on the firm’s Commercial Real Estate Investment Committee, Conflicts Committee, Management Committee, Risk Committee, Strategic Planning Committee and ESG Committee. Prior to joining Sound Point, Mr. MacKinnon served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Realty Finance Trust, Inc., a publicly registered non-traded REIT from January 2013 to December 2015. In his role, Mr. MacKinnon started the company, raised $800M of equity, built a team of 24 professionals and originated a portfolio of $1.3 billion of debt investments. Prior to starting Realty Financial Trust, Mr. MacKinnon served as Senior Vice President and Head of High-Yield Portfolio Management for Cole Real Estate Investments from 2011 through 2012 where he invested approximately $350 million in credit sensitive CMBS and mezzanine loans. From 2008 to 2011, Mr. MacKinnon was a partner with EndPoint Financial, LLC where he provided CMBS advisory and real estate workout services. From 2004 through 2007, Mr. MacKinnon was a Managing Director at Nomura Securities International where he managed the North American Structured Credit Trading businesses including commercial real estate and asset backed securities. Prior to joining Nomura, Mr. MacKinnon served as President and Chief Executive Officer of REALM, Inc., a privately owned real estate software and services company primarily owned by Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst with CMGI and T.H. Lee, Putnam Equity Partners. Before joining REALM, Mr. MacKinnon was Co-Head and Co-Founder of the Commercial Mortgage Group and Manager of the European Asset Securitization Group at Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc. (“DLJ”). Prior to joining DLJ in 1992, Mr. MacKinnon worked in the Real Estate Finance Group at Salomon Brothers, Inc. on a variety of commercial real estate debt and equity transactions. Mr. MacKinnon also served on the Board of Directors for CRIIMI Mae, Inc. (NYSE: “CMM”) from 2001 to 2003.

Mr. MacKinnon earned a B.A. in Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University, summa cum laude. He earned an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.
