Profile

Brett Brewer is a Co-Founder and Managing Director at Crosscut Ventures, one of the original seed-stage venture funds in Los Angeles. Prior to co-founding Crosscut Ventures, Brett was a serial entrepreneur who has built, operated, and sold a number of Internet media companies. He started his career as an early internet pioneer, co-founding Intermix Media in 1997, just two years after graduating from UCLA. Under his leadership, Intermix Media launched several successful businesses, including Myspace, Skilljam.com, and Alena. Brett sold Intermix to Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation in 2005 for $680M.

After leaving News Corp, Brett became President of Adknowledge, where he oversaw operations for the online advertising company. During his tenure, Adknowledge grew to over 350 employees across the globe and achieved annual revenues exceeding $300 million. Brett now serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.

In addition to his successful career as an entrepreneur and executive, Brett is also an accomplished angel investor and pillar of the SoCal tech community. His passion for investing and mentoring start-ups ultimately led to his co-founding of Crosscut.

Brett has also dedicated his time and philanthropy to bringing education and technology to underserved and vulnerable communities. He has served on the boards of Alliance and After School All Stars, which brings high-quality after-school programming to tens of thousands of young people across the nation. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Brett founded the LA Tech Cares initiative to bring internet connection and WiFi to Alliance Scholars to keep them on their path to college through the hardest days of the pandemic.

Brett is a sought-after international speaker, with numerous industry event appearances, including Sydney's Social-Con, the Goldman Sachs Internet Conference, the Gridley Conference, and the ThinkEquity Growth Conference, among others. He has also spoken at prestigious events such as the Red Herring, the Venice Festival of Media, the Dow Jones VentureWire, and the Montgomery Technology Conference
