Profile
Clare Sibson KC (silk 2016)
Clare’s work spans all aspects of commercial, criminal, regulatory and public law. She has advocated for individuals and companies in some of the most serious and complex cases within her fields, both at first instance and on appeal. She has deep, practical knowledge of the regulatory, company law and criminal dimensions of commercial and banking arrangements, involving matters such as IPOs and mergers, securities trading, payments, client money, and trade secrets. Her instincts are rooted in her conduct of contested trials, across three decades. She is regularly instructed by regulators, including the FCA, the GFSC (Guernsey) and the FRC.
In the Spring of 2026, Clare successfully led the case for the FCA against Crispin Odey for failures of governance at his eponymous hedge fund. Her current instructions include defending reinsurance brokers charged with failure to prevent bribery, advocating for the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago as intervener in an appeal concerning its responsibility for the solvency of the banks it supervises, and defending an individual charged with conspiracies to defraud and bribe following the Entain Deferred Prosecution Agreement. Historically, Clare has successfully defended executives as varied as John Varley of Barclays Bank, and Rebekah Brooks of News International.
