Steve is currently the Senior Director of Analytical Chemistry at Editas medicine. His team is responsibilities for characterization of guide RNAs (gRNAs) and ribonucleoprotein complexes (RNPs), which includes analytical method development, QC and stability testing, and biophysical characterization (e.g., thermodynamics, affinities and off-rates). He received his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from UC San Diego, where he received the Harold Urey Award. He received his Ph.D. in Biophysical Chemistry from UC Berkeley, under Dr. Ignacio Tinoco, where he used 2D-NMR and other spectroscopic techniques to characterize nonstandard DNA structures. He has also led analytical groups at several other biotechnology companies (NexStar, Invenux, Amgen, SomaLogic), and has a broad background in analytical techniques used for the characterization of biomolecules.
