Profile

Associate professor Sónia Troeira Henriques researches cell membranes as drug targets and develops peptide-based therapeutics for cancer and infectious diseases. She earned her PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from the University of Lisbon in 2008. Her career has been distinguished by prestigious awards, including a Marie Curie Fellowship (2008) and an ARC Future Fellowship (2015), supporting her postdoctoral research at The University of Queensland. Since 2018, Sónia has led a dynamic research group based at the Translational Research Institute in Brisbane, Australia, specializing in peptide therapeutics and membrane biology, while teaching Biochemistry at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). She is also a chief investigator at the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for Innovations in Peptide and Protein Science (CIPPS), driving advancements in peptide-based drug discovery.
