Prof. Thabo Legwaila is an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa, Member of the Pretoria Bar, a Professor of Law at the University of the Witwatersrand and a Chartered Tax Advisor. He is also a Member of the World Tax Lawyers (WTL).
Prof. Thabo Legwaila holds the following qualifications: B Iuris (Venda); LLB (Wits); LLM (Wits); PG Dip Tax Law (UCT); LLM (UCT) and LLD (Pretoria). In his career, Legwaila held various positions including Senior Lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch; Research Fellow at the Harvard University International Tax Program; Senior Tax Consultant at KPMG and EY; Director of Business Tax at the South African National Treasury; Extraordinary Lecturer at the University of Pretoria; Head of Tax for the Africa Division at Citibank; Professor of Tax Law at the University of Johannesburg; Member of the Davis Tax Committee (DTC); Chief Executive Officer of the Office of the Tax Ombud.
Prof Legwaila has published widely on tax. He authored over 45 peer reviewed and accredited publications in various journals on tax and is the editor of the tax textbook Tax Law: An Introduction and co-author of the seventh edition of Nagel’s Commercial Law textbook.
