Caroline Sayan is a global executive who has been responsible for game changing business initiatives for growth and transformation in the art market. By combining her art and business education, Caroline has consistently been at the forefront of creating the building blocks that enabled international art market expansion over the last 25 years. Caroline is currently President and CEO of Cadell + Co Americas an art advisory firm focused on supporting the fiduciary community and their clients when collecting or selling art.
During Caroline’s tenure at Christie’s, she designed and launched bespoke financial services, instigated the globalization and growth strategies of auction, private and digital sales channels. Caroline has extensive knowledge of the 20th and 21st Modern and Contemporary art. This includes specific experience with Asian art market and while living and working in China, oversaw the opening of the China market to western art auctions.
During her career, Caroline was also a key figure in building the 20th Century art market and was integral in the sale of many collections most notably the Collection of Peggy and David Rockefeller raising over $800million for charities and the Leonardo di Vinci rediscovered painting of “Salvator Mundi” that sold for $450million, the highest paid price for a single work of art at auction. In her role as President and CEO of Cadell Inc Americas, she advised on the Sir Joseph Hotung estate which realized over $100million in auctions spanning Asia, Europe, and the Americas in 2022.
Caroline has an undergraduate degree in Art History and an MBA in International Business. Caroline is a regular speaker, lecturer, panelist, and moderator on topics relating to the overall art market, art market financial tools, art investment and art estate management. Caroline is a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The Art Newspaper and New York Times on the financial state of the art market.
