Sophia Roper KC is Joint Head of the Court of Protection team at Serjeants’ Inn Chambers and is widely recognised as one of the leading silks in complex and high-value litigation in this field. Her expertise spans both property and affairs and welfare and medical matters. She has extensive experience in deputyships, lasting and enduring powers of attorney, cross-jurisdictional matters including financial management, and all aspects of mental capacity and best interests, including retrospective capacity assessments.
She is regularly instructed by the Official Solicitor, health and social care bodies, local authorities, and private clients, and has significant expertise in hybrid cases where property, welfare, mental health, and public law intersect. Her recent cases include Re ZZ (Capacity) [2024], where she represented a vulnerable adult challenging a court’s decision on capacity in relation to personal welfare, residence, and marriage and Re RF [2025], where she successfully argued that the Court of Protection should not recognise or enforce a Guardianship order made in Scotland.
