Profile
Alex specialises in public law and private client work, with a particular focus on mental capacity. His practice spans complex Court of Protection health and welfare proceedings, property and affairs disputes, and related public law challenges.
Alex has extensive experience advising on cross-border mental capacity issues, including deputyship, powers of attorney and jurisdictional disputes. He has provided legislative and policy advice to overseas territories and Crown dependencies in relation to their mental capacity and mental health frameworks. He also has particular expertise in end-of-life planning, including wills and lasting powers of attorney.
Alongside his practice, Alex is pursuing a part-time PhD examining the impact of the Liberty Protection Safeguards on vulnerable people.
Alex is a member of the Attorney General’s B Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown. He regularly advises and represents government departments and public bodies, including the Ministry of Justice, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation, and the Department for Education, in matters ranging from litigation to policy development.
Alex is ranked as a leading junior for combining clear, strategic advice with a practical understanding of the complex legal and personal issues that arise in cases involving vulnerable individuals.
