Kevin GustafsonDirector of Legal & Compliance, Americas at Eastspring Investments
Kevin Gustafson joined Eastspring Investments in August 2012 as its Director of Legal and Compliance for the Americas, based in Chicago. Kevin is responsible for legal affairs, regulatory compliance matters, risk, and corporate governance management across the Americas for Eastspring Investments, and is Chief Compliance Officer of Eastspring Investments Inc.
Prior to joining Eastspring Investments, Kevin spent two years as an industry consultant specializing in regulatory structures, operating platforms, and the design and launch of exchange-traded financial products.
Before this, Mr. Gustafson served as the General Counsel of Invesco PowerShares Capital Management LLC, a registered investment advisory firm that advises and sponsors the PowerShares family of exchange-traded funds globally. In addition, Mr. Gustafson served as the Chief Compliance Officer of the PowerShares Exchange Traded Funds. Mr. Gustafson listed over 100 ETFs on four different US exchanges, as well as participated in the listing of 14 new ETFs on five exchanges across Europe. As legal counsel, Mr. Gustafson led the sale of Invesco PowerShares Capital Management LLC to Invesco Ltd. (formerly AMVESCAP PLC) in 2006, and in 2007 the acquisition of the sponsorship of the NASDAQ’s QQQ Trust, BLDRS Trust and EQQQ platform in Ireland. Mr. Gustafson also was responsible for the licensing arrangements with over forty index partners, including structuring key distribution agreements with NASDAQ, Deutsche Bank and AER Advisors.
Mr. Gustafson served as counsel and the reporting compliance officer for Invesco PowerShares Capital Management Ireland Ltd. and PowerShares Global Funds PLC, the Irish domiciled UCITS platform for ETFs offered in Europe. He also directed the regulatory review of the cross-listing and distribution efforts of the PowerShares ETFs in Canada, Asia and Latin/South America. In addition, Mr. Gustafson organized and served as a manager of PowerShares Mauritius.
Prior to joining PowerShares in 2004, Mr. Gustafson was in private law practice, focusing primarily on corporate and securities matters. Kevin graduated from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago in 1992 and holds a B.A. in Political Science from Wheaton College.
