Recruitment and retention of clinical study subjects is are an all-time low. The average retention rate in 2013 was 33% which is a 56% drop from 2003 levels.

This whitepaper provides information about the many ways in which clinical research can be made more patient-friendly to enhance recruitment and retention which translates into cost-effective treatments as well as savings and an improved image for the sponsor. This is a time when research can leverage readily available technology to develop clinical research trials that are more patient-centric.

Patient centricity has to do with making the patient feel special which makes clinical trial participation attractive as well as more valuable to them. More importantly, an attitude of patient centricity helps with continuity of care, better diagnostic targeting, treatment outcomes and thus retention. Study volunteers are like the ‘goose that laid the golden egg’ and should be afforded that level of consideration.
