Wei Li, Head of EMEA Investment Strategy, iShares by BlackRock
1. What is your personal philosophy?
I think of words I want people to associate me with, and work backwards. These words change over time, and right now they are ‘safe pair of hands’. Besides that, I tell myself to be patient and not to expect immediate results, and not to waste time on things that I can’t control.
2. If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
Sushi chef – there is something mesmerising about executing an art with clinical precision, although I’m pretty sure I’ll be no good because I’d eat them all!
3. Disruption is always on the tip of everyone’s tongue. In your opinion, what is going to be the ultimate game-changer for the finance industry?
Machine learning scares me – its potential is endless! In China we have a saying: when the direction of the wind changes, some build walls and some build windmills. I’ve been spending time thinking about what windmills are in the context of the financial industry – a few ideas, but nothing close to fruition!
4. What's your favourite thing about Berlin?
Berlin’s famous street art scene and architecture, and a few dear friends whom I must visit.
5. What are you most looking forward to at FundForum 2016?
The people – FundForum is an incredible event and I am hoping to stay for longer than my speaking slot.
