A lower risk route into emerging markets

Emerging markets (EMs) are recovering after a challenging couple of years. While headwinds remain, we believe that the long-term investment case in both equities and bonds is strong and intact. In particular, valuations of many EM assets look attractive following a prolonged period of weakness. The issue for many investors is the volatility inherent in EM investing. However, we believe it is possible to build a more resilient, lower risk approach to EM by employing a multi-asset approach and investing across the full breadth of the EM universe.

In this webinar, which took place at 6th December 2016, Richard Carlyle, investment director at Capital Group, assesses the diverse EM universe, which spans more than 60 countries at different stages of maturity. He also describes how an active, research-intensive approach to investing across the entire traded EM universe offers the potential to deliver equity-like returns with lower volatility than emerging market equities.
