Stephan is a Legal Director at BASF SE. Within BASF's corporate legal team Stephan is responsible for competition law related questions and leads BASF's competition law practice group. His advice covers all aspects of competition law, including M&A-related procedures (merger control, FDI, FSR) and behavioural matters.

Before joining BASF in 2018, Stephan spent nearly 10 years as a member of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s Antitrust Competition and Trade practice in Cologne and Berlin. Stephan studied at the universities of Passau and Santiago de Compostela and holds a LL.M. from King’s College London. During his legal traineeship at the higher regional court of Frankfurt he spent stages i.a. with the Bundeskartellamt and DG COMP.
