Helena is a Principal Policy Adviser for AI Policy at the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). She currently leads policy work on generative AI and foundation models, and in 2024 led the development of the ICO’s public response to its consultation series on generative AI and data protection. Helena has worked at the intersection of policy and AI in academia, industry and the public sector for over eight years. Her experience of AI regulation covers data protection, competition and consumer issues through her previous role at the UK Competition and Markets Authority, and regulatory cooperation through her work with the UK’s Digital Regulation Cooperation Forum.
