Patrick M. Ryan, Bartko’s co-managing partner and head of litigation, is one of the most highly regarded commercial and IP trial lawyers in the United States. He handles cases throughout the country, involving a cross section of complex commercial litigation, antitrust, trade secrets, intellectual property, class action, false advertising, and constitutional matters. Over the last 25 years — at Bartko, and as a leading Partner at global firms Winston & Strawn and Morgan Lewis — Patrick has successfully litigated numerous matters on both the plaintiff and defense side for major corporate clients from a variety of industries. The National Law Journal and California Daily Journal have both featured Patrick and his work in their Top Verdicts and Top Lawyers assessments.
Patrick’s practice also encompasses extensive antitrust counseling work, and he regularly leverages his creativity along with his antitrust, IP, technical, and other experiences to develop practical and effective solutions for his clients’ complex challenges. Patrick is lead counsel in several major opt-out antitrust cases against the Blue Cross Blue Shield entities. Patrick, along with colleague Rob Bunzel and co-counsel firm Jones Day, obtained a critical defense jury verdict in the Sutter Health antitrust case where plaintiffs were seeking $1.3 billion in trebled damages.
