Dr. Maureen Merrifield

Maureen Merrifield, Ph.D., joined Rion in 2020 as Chief Regulatory Officer. Dr. Merrifield has over 18 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. She has significant expertise in cell and gene therapy products, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, and protein therapies. Dr. Merrifield has led the regulatory strategy and submissions for multiple therapeutic products from discovery to commercialization. She has regulatory expertise in Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC), including non-clinical and clinical aspects of pharmaceutical development.

She has been the lead of global pharmaceutical teams consisting of clinical, preclinical, CMC, statistician, pharmacovigilance staff to advance therapeutic products through the development stages. Before joining Rion, Maureen held leadership roles in regulatory affairs at companies such as Clinipace, Bellicum Pharmaceuticals and scientific roles at Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline.

Dr. Merrifield holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Western University in Ontario, Canada.
