John took on the role of Assistant Deputy Minister, Energy in March 2015 and of Assistant Deputy Minister, Programs and Services in April 2017.
The position provides oversight for eight government divisions within the Department of Infrastructure, Energy; Procurement; Information Management, Information Technical Services; Compliance and Licensing; Air, Marine and Safety; Fuel Services; and Marine Transportation Services.
Before joining the Government of the Northwest Territories, John worked in the private sector and has more than 30 years of experience in logistics, purchasing, and petroleum supply and transportation. John has for much of his career worked and travelled extensively throughout Canada’s north, often to remote locations, on land and at sea. He currently makes his home in Yellowknife.
John holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Supply Chain Management Professional designation. John is the former Chair of the Board of the Arctic Energy Alliance, a non-profit society that promotes and facilitates the adoption of efficient and renewable energy practices in the Northwest Territories, and past president of the Supply Chain Management Association, Northern Territories chapter
