Fermelnta is a Japan-based synbio / bio-manufacturing startup developing bacterial cells to produce plant-derived ingredients. It has an established technology that constructs a multi-step biosynthetic pathway through introduction of 20-30 genes into single cell. The target molecules include opium alkaloids, cannabinoids, flavonoids or any other valuable compounds for medicines, food or cosmetics applications. Based on more than 15 years of world-leading research achievements in the academic field which has been continuously supported by several national projects of Japanese government, the company was founded in October 2022.
