George Monroe is a partner and senior member of the firm’s Real Estate Group at McInnes Cooper. George’s practice is primarily commercial real estate based, with a focus on leasing (both landlord and tenant aspects), financing, acquisition and sale of commercial properties. George has previously worked as in-house counsel and as a regional real estate representative for a national grocery chain operator. This experience involved site selection, negotiation of purchase and sale agreements, development, permitting and construction issues all related to large scale multi-million dollar retail and office construction projects. George has been actively involved in the past with the International Council of Shopping Centres Legal Conference and has previously hosted the Breakfast Table portion of the Annual Law Conference. George has been involved in the following specific types of transactions: the acquisition, financing, construction and take-out financing with respect to long term residential care facilities across Nova Scotia; large scale syndicated financings involving the acquisition and development of wind farm projects; the successful sale of a large industrial complex in and around an operating paper mill which involved complex commercial terms and related easements; the drafting, negotiation and registration of complex reciprocal easement and operating agreements involving both retail and industrial sites, including dealing with the financing issues related thereto; the financing and re-financing of large retail/office premises on both the lender and borrower side.

George has been recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada for his practice in Real Estate law as well as the Canadian Legal lexpert Directory. George is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society. He holds a B.Sc. and M.B.A. from Dalhousie University, as well as a LL.B. from the University of New Brunswick. George is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centres, and has volunteered with Junior Achievement and minor sports associations.
