KEVIN E. NOONAN, Ph.D. is an intellectual property attorney and partner with McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP, where he serves as co-chair of the firm’s Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals practice group. Dr. Noonan’s practice includes all aspects of patent practice in Federal Courts and the USPTO, procurement, patent interferences, litigation, opinions, licensing, and counseling, with a particular focus on early-stage technologies. He has represented dozens of start-up companies and universities regarding cutting-edge technologies, including patent portfolio development, licensing, and assisting clients with private placement investments and initial public offerings. Dr. Noonan is a founding author of the biotechnology patent weblog, PatentDocs (www.patentdocs.org). He brings his experience as a molecular biologist to his legal work. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the State University of New York/Stony Brook and a Ph.D. in molecular biology from Princeton University. Kevin is a cum laude graduate of the John Marshall Law School. Dr. Noonan is a sought out and frequent speaker, thought leader, commentator, and author on a variety of intellectual property law topics. He lectures widely on U.S. patent law and biotechnology patent matters. He is also an adjunct professor of law at DePaul School of Law, IIT-Kent School of Law and UIC/John Marshall Law School and has taught U.S. Patent law to European practitioners in London and Munich and to Examiners and Reexaminers of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) of Beijing, China. Dr. Noonan is admitted to practice in Illinois and Massachusetts and before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
