Charlotte Smerdon, PhD., brings more than 18 years of industry experience across all phases of clinical development. She began her career as a clinical research associate and subsequently moved onto various roles of increasing responsibility in the biotech, pharma, and CRO sectors, across multiple therapeutic areas and global geographies. Purespring, Freeline, Gilead, Biogen and TAKEDA are some of the organisations where Charlotte put her expertise to work, providing project management leadership for clinical trial deliverables. Charlotte has a keen interest in rare disease and gene therapy, and has recently worked to enrol patients with Fabry Disease to an AAV gene therapy trial, led the planning of natural history and registry studies in an ultra-rare disease and currently planning the initiation of a Phase I FiH gene therapy study.
She possesses a wealth of knowledge in complex high profile clinical trial programs across diverse therapeutic areas including gene therapy, rare diseases, HIV, and COVID-19 among others. Charlotte is currently Senior Director of Purespring’s Clinical Operations group. She holds a BSc with honours from the University of Hertfordshire and a PhD in Cell Biology from University College London.
