Frequently asked questions
Below you'll find answers to the questions we get asked the most about the Certificate in International Maritime Codes and Conventions programme.
What do our students gain by taking this course?
At the end of this professional development course and upon successful completion of the assessments, students receive a downloadable official digital badge and certificate from Lloyds Maritime Academy.
The course carries 21 CPD hours or 2.1 CEUs and this will appear on the certificate itself.
This is the same whether the students take the scheduled or on-demand option.
How long do each of the online tests last? What is the assessment process?
There is a multiple-choice online test at the end of each module. You must achieve at least 70% to pass the course.
- Scheduled: Modules are released fortnightly, and you must pass all tests by the course end date to receive your digital certification.
- On-demand: You must pass the test for a module to release your next module.
Can I commence the course earlier/ later than as scheduled?
- Scheduled: The course start date is set, so it cannot be started earlier. We normally accept late applications up to two weeks after the start date, but you must catch up. If necessary, we can offer a short extension at the end of the course to allow students to finish. Students may also opt to defer completion to the next intake for a small fee.
- On-demand: Students can start the course anytime (upon successful enrolment) and take up to 6 months to complete the programme.
Will the course run again later this year?
- Scheduled: This course only runs once a year, so the next intake is scheduled for 2025.
- On-demand: The on-demand course is available to start anytime and to take at your own flexible pace.
Can I have access to the next module once I have completed the one I am working on?
- Scheduled: Each module is released every two weeks as per the schedule you’ll find in your Student Handbook, which is provided upon enrollment.
- On-demand: Modules are released one-by-one upon the successful completion of the previous module's online test.
Can I come to the UK to study the course; will I get a visa? Are there any face-to-face seminars?
All course interactions take place online through the VLE (virtual learning environment). Travelling to the UK is not necessary, and we are unable to help with any visa applications.
