David Taylor
CEng. FIMarEST FITOL at Lloyd's Maritime Academy
Trainer

Profile

David started his career as a marine surveyor with Lloyd’s Register, based in various locations in the Far East, Europe and Scandinavia, before returning to London where he co-founded Lloyd’s Register’s customer training arm, Marine Training Services (LR MTS). David led the development of learner-focussed, engaging training, and acted as a trainer for many programmes. He also led the development and mentoring of other trainers around the world. David and Liz collaborated for the first time in the early 2000’s in the creation of the development programmes for MTS trainers. During this time David gained a formal qualification in Training and Learning, while continuing to lead the development of technical training courses, and the development of trainers globally. The trainer development programmes developed by Liz and David were recognised as formal entry routes to membership by the professional body, the Institute of training and Occupational Learning. David was the Deputy Manager of MTS for a number of years, responsible for the quality and management of over 50 courses delivered through 6 training centres by 180 trainers globally.

To broaden his experience David moved to become the Strategic Learning and Development manager for Lloyd’s Register Energy, accountable for the delivery of technical training and development to several thousand colleagues globally across the Energy business.

In 2017 David chose to gain a new perspective on learning and development, gaining his PGCE in a STEM subject, and developing a better understanding of lifelong learning and personal development as a high school teacher, before returning to industry in 2019 as the Senior Training portfolio manager for the UK rail network, responsible for the development and delivery of safety, engineering and environmental competence for 45,000 staff nationally.

David returned to the marine industry and Lloyd’s Maritime Academy in 2021, where he is currently responsible for the development, delivery and quality of all Lloyd's Maritime Academy courses.
