Maristella Rubbiani brings over three decades of experience in chemicals regulation, risk assessment, and EU policy. She spent 35 years at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in Italy, where she headed the unit responsible for risk assessment of biocides and plant protection products, poison centres, and harmonized classification and labelling. She was also an inspector for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and contributed to several international capacity-building programmes, including TAIEX and Twinning projects.

She served on national and international expert bodies, including the Italian Committee for the authorisation of plant protection products and biocides and for the implementation of the Sustainable Use Directive. At EU level, she was a member of the Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) from 2013 to 2019. She also contributed for eight years to the FAO/WHO Joint Meeting on Pesticide Management (JMPM) and was part of the OECD WG for biocides for ten years.

Then Maristella worked at the EU COM as a Policy Officer in DG SANTE’s Pesticides and Biocides Unit for 6 years. She currently joined Rud Pedersen Public Affairs as senior advisor. She holds a degree in Biology and a PhD in Environmental and Industrial Hygiene.
