Profile

Associate Professor Tam Nguyen has 25 years of working in healthcare, health & medical research sector including tertiary teaching hospitals and research institutes across Australia.

Tam is the Deputy Director of Research at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, one of the largest tertiary teaching and research hospitals in Melbourne - responsible for the organisation’s research strategy, research ethics and governance, clinical trials, research innovation and development. SVHM is part of St Vincent’s Health Australia Network – a $3B health care network and second largest healthcare provider in Australia.

Tam teaches various Australian and international universities (NTU in Singapore and Dresden International University in Germany) on various topics including: RWE in clinical research; Clinical Evidence in Digital Health and AI Value-based Healthcare. He currently holds academic appointments with Melbourne Medical School and Monash Medical School - two of the world top 30 (and APAC top 5) medical schools.

Tam invests and advises health tech star-up and scale-up companies. He is on the Investment Committee for Horizon 3 Biotech, a targeted $100M fund investing in high quality biotech and medtech companies with mission to improve lives globally.

As an independent consultant, Tam worked with various local and international large enterprises and SMEs on clinical trial strategy, Australia’s market analysis and market expansion, patient engagement and clinical trials technology development.

He is a regular invited speaker on a broad range of topics on clinical trials and healthcare innovation. He chairs and moderates at numerous national and international conferences. Tam is the co-editor of the recently published book AI in Medicine: Applications, Limitations and Future Directions (Springer Nature).
