Arlie Sterling is President and co-founder of Marsoft Incorporated and serves on the board of the Blue Sky Maritime Coalition. The Blue Sky Maritime Coalition is dedicated to accelerating the pace of decarbonization of the North American maritime industry. Arlie was elected as a Member of the American Bureau of Shipping in 2022. Sterling has lectured at the university level on the dynamics of the shipping markets and investment and chartering decisions under uncertainty. He advises shipowners, investors and financial institutions regarding the development and execution of effective investment, chartering and risk management strategies.
Recently, he has led the development of Marsoft’s carbon market practice, including a collaboration with the MIT SeaGrant Design Laboratory to create models of vessel performance and the impact of retrofit investments in terms of reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. He leads Marsoft’s work with carbon registries and with market-makers in the carbon space.
Sterling has an S.B. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an M.S. from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in Applied Economics (concentration in finance and macroeconomics) from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
