Dean CrassasPresident and Founder at Port Medical ManagementSpeaker
Profile
A discerning visionary, serial innovator, and empathetic leader, Dean Crassas' experience spans over 30 years in the international maritime industry. A native Houstonian and alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin, Dean spent his career in international shipping and freight, living and working in many of the largest port cities in the United States.
As the son of a shipping and freight executive, who was also a consular diplomat, Dean witnessed his parents' interactions with heads of state and business titans in both formal and informal settings. Having understood the complexities of international enterprise from an early age, Dean’s entrepreneurial and growth mindset came naturally to him. Dean's passion to improve lives through health care was spurred when he discovered a prevalent, if not universal, complaint from ship owners and agents: 'locating and delivering reliable medical care to foreign crew members was time-consuming and arduous.'
With his solution-focused approach, Dean developed a new service model to address this need. He founded Port Medical Management in 2005, based in Houston, Texas, to serve the requirements of ships in ports across the Gulf Coast. Under Dean Crassas’ leadership, the company that laid its foundation stone 18 years ago, is now equipped to service ports of call on all three U.S. coasts.
Currently, Port Medical Management is leading the way in matters concerning seafarers' mental health. This commitment has resulted in the creation of SeaCalm, a scientific and multifaceted program designed to identify, monitor, and address mental health challenges unique to life at sea.
Dean Crassas continues to spearhead Port Medical Management, driving forward the company’s mission to support innovation and provide cost-effective health care solutions in the maritime medical industry.
