Profile
Eric Tan is a senior researcher at the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR), formerly the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), in Golden, Colorado. His industry experience lies in engineered nanostructured materials, industrial fuel processing, hydrogen production, and commercial fuel cell systems. At NLR, Dr. Tan leads projects in marine biofuels, direct air capture, and other sustainable energy solutions. He focuses on exploring biomass conversion pathways to produce cost-competitive liquid hydrocarbon fuels compatible with existing infrastructure.
As an AIChE Fellow and a certified Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Professional, Eric has co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and public reports. He is actively involved in AIChE, serving on the Leadership Advisory Council for the Sustainable Engineering Forum, where he promotes sustainable engineering practices. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Akron and a Master's in Sustainability from Harvard University.
