Profile

Katherine Mattikow wrote the first academic paper on the use of AI for the autonomous loading and discharge of liquid cargo on tanker ships, for which she received a provisional patent and the 2024 CMA Business of Shipping Research Award, of which she is the first repeat winner. She is the Founder and CEO of the startup TankerWise, which seeks to commercialize this technology. In 2024, she was ranked #70 of the Top 100 Women in Shipping, and was the youngest woman to earn that accolade. Katherine attended SUNY Maritime College for her BSc in International Transportation and Trade (2023), MSc in International Transportation Management (2025), and MSc in Maritime and Naval Studies with a U.S.C.G. 3rd Mate Unlimited Tonnage Deck Licence (Expected 2026). She is a 2022 Duke of Edinburgh Award recipient and national competitor in sailing and figure skating.
